Portrait of Igor Topolski

Igor Topolski

I am Igor, a software engineering enthusiast who has been programming since the age of 9. Passionate about technology and data, I spend my free time climbing, coding, and eating. My professional experience includes working as a university lecturer teaching subjects such as robotics, computer science, and networking. When faced with tasks that take longer than 3 minutes to complete, I can often be found scripting a solution to automate the process and save time.

About me

I am a software engineer with a passion for technology, data, and security. My journey with programming began at the young age of 9, when my dad taught me the basics of HTML. However, I quickly became bored of plain HTML and decided to take on a new challenge. With the help of my primary school English teacher, I began learning PHP (which by the way was a rocky road). From that moment on, I was hooked on computers and gaming. Instead of spending whole days playing games, I would do both – teach myself programming and play games šŸ˜€

In 2013, I decided to take my passion to the next level and moved to the UK to study BEng Computer Systems Engineering at Middlesex University. I graduated in 2016 with a 1st class Honours degree, with my dissertation focusing on “Investigating deployment issues in VANET systems by developing a Java application to combine results from Roadside Units to enable the display of multiple vehicles on Google Earth”.

After graduation, I immediately started working at Middlesex University as a Graduate Academic Assistant. Over the next few years, I was promoted to Associate Lecturer and then Technical Tutor. During my time at the university, I delivered lectures and labs to hundreds of students, mainly in programming subject for Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, and Networking students. I was also taking care of the faculty’s IT infrastructure as well as assessment system for placement and first-year students within the faculty of Science and Technology.

In 2020, I decided to leave the university and join a data-enablement start-up. Currently, I work for Checkout.com as part of the Notifications team. In my free time, I work on personal and consulting projects utilizing different technologies including Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Security, and others.
